Amblyopia?
Amblyopia are eye disorders in the form of a sharp decrease in vision due to the interference visual development during childhood. This situation is also known as lazy eye or "lazy eye".
If one eye has good vision sharp eye while the other does not, then the sharp eye with poorer vision would have amblyopia. Usually only one eye who have amblyopia, but did not rule out this disorder can occur in two eyes at once.
Amblyopia is often found and can be about 2 to 3 people from 100 patients. The period of amblyopia therapy is best during infancy and early childhood.
How is the development of good eyesight?
Newborn babies already have the ability to see and for several years early childhood vision system is growing rapidly in line with the sharp increase in vision.
If a child is unable to use her eyes normally, then the sharp eyesight was not well developed and even decreased. In the initial period of 9 years of life, the visual system has evolved the most and generally can not be changed anymore.
Thus, the development of vision in both eyes is critical to achieving sharp normal vision. A person suffering from amblyopia in one eye twice as likely to experience loss of vision in the eye next because of trauma.
If at any time, sharp vision in one eye deteriorated due to accident or illness, it is important to have a sharp eye next to normal vision. Thus, amblyopia must be detected and treated as early as possible.
When should amblyopia detected?
Highly recommended for all children sharp eyesight checked by a pediatrician, family doctor or ophthalmologist before the age of 4 years. If the child has a visual impairment, a pediatrician or family doctor will refer the child to the ophthalmologist.
If there is a family history of suffering from strabismus, congenital cataracts or other eye diseases, then the eye doctor should examine the child from infancy.
What causes amblyopia?
Amblyopia is caused by a variety of conditions that affect visual development. Generally this condition is derived. There are 3 main causes of amblyopia, namely:
Strabismus (squint)
Amblyopia generally appear in the eyes of the experienced strabismus (squint). The eyes squint occurs to avoid double vision (double) by the child. Children also usually prefer to use the eye with a sharp side better vision. The eyes that squint eyes with sharp vision is worse.
Abnormalities of unequal refraction between both eyes
Abnormalities sharp vision can be corrected with glasses. However, amblyopia can occur when one eye does not focus because of the size of minus, plus, or a cylinder which is larger than the eye next to it.
Amblyopia can also appear in two eyes at a time when sharp vision in both eyes so bad. This situation appears in people with a minus, plus or tall cylinder.
Turbidity in the normally clear eye tissues Cataracts (cloudiness in the lens of the eye) can cause amblyopia. Any condition that prevents the entry of shadow objects into the eye can cause amblyopia. This situation is the worst cause of amblyopia.
How is amblyopia diagnosed?
Diagnose amblyopia is not easy. A child may not realize having a weaker eye or eyes sharper vision. Parents are also not aware of eye disorders in children, except strabismus or other eye abnormalities visible on her son.
Amblyopia can be detected by finding a sharp difference of vision between the two found a sharp eye or a very poor vision in both eyes. Because the check sharp vision in children smaller very difficult, the eye doctor can assess children's sharp vision is to see the reaction of infants to follow an object. Examination performed on each eye alternately closed (patches).
If one eye and a keen eye amblyopia either closed, then the infant will react in the form of peeping from behind the patch, trying to open a patch, or cry.
Sharp eyesight is worse in one eye does not always mean a child suffering from amblyopia. Often, sharp vision can still be solved by giving the glasses on the child.
The ophthalmologist will also carefully examine the child's eyes to see another eye disorder that reduces sharp vision.
Examples of eye disorders are:
Cataract
Inflammation
Tumor
Abnormalities of the eye (retina, optic nerve, etc.)
